The paper presents an introduction into the role of metaphors, gestural metaphors and metaphoric models in shaping design processes and specifically architectural design. It shows how metaphors work both in the abstract frameworks as well as right down to detailed design choices and argues for the benefits of pursuing a stronger conscience for the conceptual role of metaphors in architecture conceptualization.
